Our Mathematics program offers students coursework in both pure and applied mathematics, research opportunities (Right: three undergraduate students presented mathematical research at the Joint Math Meetings), and personalized mentorship by outstanding faculty. Additionally, our students are provided with free mathematics tutoring and a modern computing facility that includes access to software including Maple, SAS, R, and Matlab.
Students may choose to pursue a major in mathematics with a program leading to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The B.A. program, which requires a minimum of 33 semester hours of mathematics, allows a great deal of flexibility for persons interested in combining the major program with a strong minor or double major in another discipline. The B.S. program, which requires a minimum of 39 semester hours of mathematics, is recommended for students interested in scientific applications or further study in mathematics on the graduate level. A grade of C or better must be achieved in all mathematics core courses.
