Ball State's bachelor's degree in visual arts with an emphasis in drawing provides comprehensive training in what is arguably the most important element in any artist’s training. Students are introduced to a wide range of media and techniques with emphases on well-informed practice, experimentation, and expression.
Drawing is a fundamental and indispensable component of any comprehensive studio arts curriculum. Our drawing program focuses on skill development, conceptual development, and applied methodologies. We regard drawing as both a traditional and a contemporary area of study.
What You Will Study
The drawing program begins with fundamental concepts and practice, and proceeds through a directed sequence of studio experiences, including figure drawing, to more advanced studies. Analytical and critical thinking are stressed, and interdisciplinary and collaborative studies are encouraged. Traditional drawing materials such as pen, pencil, and charcoal are supplemented by a broad range of nontraditional mark-making media.
