If the years you spent earning your undergrad degree weren’t enough to satisfy your curiosity for knowledge, then it’s time to explore the next stage of your journey at SFA.
Our graduate program helps students who wish to enter into a career in physics or who wish to continue on to earn their Ph.D. Students have access to our research facilities to help guide their studies such as, among other things, a cryogenics laboratory, atomic force microscope, scanning electron microscope and high vacuum equipment, an observatory with five research grade telescopes, and an environmental sensing and quantum optics laboratory with radiometric instruments and a variety of lasers.
The graduate physics program is a thesis program that prepares students for a career in physics or continued studied in the pursuance of a doctoral degree. Students gain a foundation in the principles of classical and quantum physics and their applications while engaging in research.
Programs are structured in accordance with the student’s background and professional objectives.
Requirements
A graduate major in physics must complete a thesis program that includes 18 to 36 graduate hours and must include:
PHY 512 - Atomic Structure Credit(s): 3
PHY 531 - Classical Mechanics Credit(s): 4
PHY 532 - Electromagnetic Waves Credit(s): 4
PHY 551 - Advanced Quantum Mechanics Credit(s): 4
and
PHY 511 - Nuclear Physics Credit(s): 3
or
PHY 534 - Solid State Physics Credit(s): 3

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) To apply for a master’s degree program at SFA, you must meet one of the following requirements: Be in your final year of undergraduate work; Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Generally, all applicants must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and a 2.8 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. English Language Scores: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score - 79 IBT (Internet-Based) and 550 PBT (Paper-Based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score - Overall band 6.5; Pearson Test of English (PTE) score – 53.
