Prepares students in the field of merchandising. Core topics include textiles, trends, retail math, visual merchandising, buying, merchandising procedures, entrepreneurship and promotion.
Careers in Merchandising
Merchandising is an exciting and challenging field that offers many career opportunities. Merchandising is done by both manufacturers and retailers of apparel and accessories.
Entry-level jobs include the following:
Retailing:
sales person assistant buyer assistant manager for a specialty store department manager for a department store assistant visual merchandiser management/executive trainee
Wholesale:
showroom assistant sales representative
Manufacturing:
assistant trim buyer assistant piece goods buyer merchandiser customer service or account representative sales representative retail specialist
Experience in these entry-level positions leads to positions with greater challenge and responsibilities in the industry and related fields. Advancement is based on personal productivity. Career direction and advancement is up to the individual.
