Geography is the science of place and space. Geography students learn and experience the lands, features, inhabitants and phenomena of Earth. As a geography student at SFA, you’ll delve into the ways that world cultures interact with environment.
Diverse career options
A geography degree provides a broad basis from which to explore career prospects in government, education or business. Geographers ask where things are located, why they are located there, how places differ and how people interact with the environment.
The world disciplines
Geography bridges the human and physical sciences, focusing not only on land, but also on human interaction with the environment.
Geography transcends many disciplines, as it influences economics, health of plants and animals, and climate. SFA geography students gain an interdisciplinary education as they explore how human influence on geography affects these areas.
A geography degree enables a career educating, researching and influencing public policy. Coursework includes utilizing geographic information systems and establishing cartography skills.

A wide range of careers
The Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology houses several disciplines that share a common theme: Learning how people throughout the world cope and connect in the past, present and future. Graduates pursue many different careers, often involving research and exploration. Some students choose to pursue graduate studies and go on to teach at the high school or collegiate level. Other head to the field to research or work for community organizations, striving to help fellow citizens across the world.
