The graphic design program guides an aspiring designer into developing their design knowledge; abilities and skills by providing opportunities that help them create a portfolio representing their individual design strengths.
Graphic design students work both individually and collaboratively on projects. Graphic design students produce projects appropriate to professional careers in advertising, visual communication, and graphic design. Student projects include: brand development, logo design and corporate identity, environmental graphics, packaging, promotions and advertising campaigns, among others.
Graphic design classes are offered as hands-on studio, online, and hybrid courses. Graphic design classes collaborate with SFA Mass Communication and Marketing programs to offer interdisciplinary studies. Campaign class students participate in American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competitions (AAF NSAC), a capstone experience that enables students to effectively work together as an advertising agency to develop award-winning campaigns for national and international clients. Design students participate in AAF events and field trips in cities across America.
The graphic design digital art studio furnishes a superb professional work environment with generous space, individual and group work and client presentation areas, and design tools. Adjacent to award winning azalea gardens, the functional and attractive digital studio features state-of-the-art graphic design software and hardware work stations, color printers, digital tablets, large scale digital AV equipment, and more for student success. Additional School of Art facilities include resource rooms with digital cameras and professional lighting equipment, and a tech center with laser cutter, 3D printer, tool room, and more.
Advanced undergraduate graphic design classes cover topics that include the creative process, type design, illustration, portfolio development, professional practices and internships, as well as the glorious history of graphic design.
