Filmmaking is a course of study that leads to a professional career in the film/video industry. Students wishing to pursue this field will first take ART 212. (Beginning Filmmaking) In this class, students will work with video cameras and digital editors to explore the art of telling a story in a visual/audio manner and will be able to see if this is the area of study they wish to pursue. Following this class, students will take ART 314a and 314b (Intermediate Film/Video Production) where they will make short films and learn the technical aspects of the profession. After Art 314a & b students will take ART 412. (Advance Film/Video Production) This class can be repeatable which enables students to take a film class each semester of their college career. Other filmmaking classes are classes in: Editing, Documentary, and Summer Feature Movie. The Filmmaking curriculum covers all areas of filmmaking. In the pre-production area students will learn script writing, budgeting, procuring locations and props, and how to cast and rehearse actors. In the production area students learn about cameras, lighting, sound, production techniques, and the jobs of a production crew. In post-production they will learn digital editing, ADR, audio sweating, special effects and distribution. Filmmaking covers all aspects of the film/video profession including feature films, documentaries, commercials, industrials, and art films. Filmmaking has been taught at SFA for over 40 years. It has graduated hundreds of students who are working in all aspects of the profession and are employed throughout the country. Students who graduate are totally prepared to work within this field and over 90% of those who graduate from the program are working the industry. Our reputation as a filmmaking school is outstanding and well-known within the vocation.
