Economics is the study of the institutions and arrangements that are used to create, protect, and allocate scarce resources. It advances our understanding of the behavior of individuals, firms, governments, and other organizations. The deep intellectual roots of economics, its rigorous analytic methods, and its powerful ability to explain and evaluate social phenomena make it an exceptionally rewarding field of study.
Economics may be a path for those who are curious about social and business problems, enjoy working with numbers and data, and want to learn how to express solutions to problems through analytical tools, economic theory, and its application to human behaviors.
The Haile/US Bank College of Business economics program provides students with excellent problem-solving abilities and develops student reasoning through the principles and intermediate courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics. Analytical skills are developed through two semesters of econometrics - the quantitative methods that economists use to seek answers to business and policy questions. Students are trained to analyze business and financial conditions, and to understand theories explaining causes of unemployment and inflation.
