在這里學(xué)什么？
Within the M.S. in Mathematics program, students can choose one of two program options: Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics. All M.S. degree programs (Mathematics or Statistics & Data Science) have two possible degree plans: the Thesis Plan or the Comprehensive Exam Plan (Non-Thesis Plan).
Pure Mathematics
This option provides a solid foundation in the theoretical aspects of mathematics. The required courses for this option are
- MATH 713 (Abstract and Real Analysis I),
- MATH 731 (Modern Algebra I), and
At least one of the following three courses:
- MATH 714 (Abstract and Real Analysis II),
- MATH 732 (Modern Algebra II), or
- MATH 741 (Algebraic Topology).
Applied Mathematics
This option provides a broad technical background for solving real-world problems. The required courses for this option are
- MATH 713 (Abstract and Real Analysis I), as well as
One of the following sequences:
- MATH 701-702 (Numerical Analysis and Approximation I and II)
- MATH 721-722 (Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos I and II),
- MATH 751-752 (Operations Research I and II), or
- MATH 761-762 (Methods in Applied Math I and II).
Plan A (Thesis)
This plan requires students to write and successfully defend a thesis. The requirement for graduating with Plan A:
- Students must complete at least 30 credits of acceptable graduate courses.
- Students must complete 6 thesis credits (Math 797).
- Students must complete 12 non-thesis credits at the 700 level.
- Students must complete at least 21 credits through on-campus courses at the university. For transfer credits, please consult the Graduate Director.
Plan B (Non-thesis)
This plan requires students to pass a comprehensive examination given by the department. Requirements for graduating with Plan B are:
- Students must complete at least 32 credits of acceptable graduate courses.
- Students must complete at least 18 credits of 700 level courses.
- Students must complete at least 23 credits through on-campus courses at the university. For transfer credits, please consult the Graduate Director.
- Students must complete 1 credit of the "Comprehensive Exam" course (Math 795).

中國(guó)學(xué)生入學(xué)要求
為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. Eligibility for admission with a 3-year bachelor's degree are determined on a case by case basis. Minimum grade point average (on a 4.0 scale): 2.75 for a master’s degree. TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet), IELTS: 6.5 (academic version).
