The University of Nevada, Reno, Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program is designed to help students develop the skills required to manage these high-level processes.
Students within this MSIS program choose between two subject emphasis tracks, each tailored to helping students learn skills vital to a specific realm of Information Systems:
- IS Management track. This track highlights the management of information systems and enhances graduate understanding of how to manage technology-based information systems as a strategic resource in organizations. This curriculum is designed to help existing Information Systems professionals advance their careers through enhanced managerial and technical skills.
- Data Analytics track. This track focuses on the use of large data sets for decision-making within organizations. This curriculum is aimed at helping graduates of any undergraduate degree program gain professional skills that enhance their ability to find employment in a technical field.
Careers in Data Analytics
Data scientists are in high demand yet there are relatively few people with the right skills to do the job. As organizations collect and store increasingly large sets of data (bigger and bigger sets of "big" data) they need people able to understand and make sense out of that data. So, what exactly does a data scientist do? It depends on the objectives of the organization, but a data scientist does some or all of the following activities:
- Determines how data might be used to support one or more objectives of the organization.
- Identifies what data should be collected.
- Collects the data.
- Organizes the data in a way that is useful for analysis.
- Analyzes the data using statistical methods.
- Draws information and important insights from the analysis.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. Eligibility for admission with a 3-year bachelor's degree are determined on a case by case basis. Minimum grade point average (on a 4.0 scale): 2.75 for a master’s degree. TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet), IELTS: 6.5 (academic version).
