The Department of Sociology offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Arts degree in sociology and participates in a graduate program leading to the Ph.D. degree in social psychology. The graduate program in sociology is for students who desire to enter careers in academics or policy-research. The study of humans in social gatherings, as well as the development of modern society, is investigated using theory and research. Graduate students looking to deepen their knowledge of social classes, economic structure and racial prejudices would benefit from this master's program.
Gender roles, modern society and law are just a few examples of course offerings in the sociology graduate program. These courses are studied at two different levels:
- Theoretical understanding of major social issues through critical analysis
- Practical application of research skills through training in statistics and research methods
Plan A (Thesis Plan)
Requires 30-semester credits; 21 credits must be completed while in residence Students opting for the thesis plan should complete their Master's degree program requirements over a period of four semesters or less, (the program is designed to be completed in two years).
Plan B (Non-Thesis Plan)
Requires 31 semester credits; 24 credits must be completed while in residence Students opting for the thesis plan should complete their Master's degree program requirements over a period of four semesters or less, (the program is designed to be completed in two years)

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. Eligibility for admission with a 3-year bachelor's degree are determined on a case by case basis. Minimum grade point average (on a 4.0 scale): 2.75 for a master’s degree. TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet), IELTS: 6.5 (academic version).
