在這里學(xué)什么?
Communication and media shape the ways we understand and interact in our social worlds. The 45-unit Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree helps students develop valuable communication understandings and skills through a deep, practical, timely, and relevant curriculum. Five core courses expose students to major communication institutions and processes, theoretical perspectives and research techniques for studying those phenomena, and career pathways and ethical considerations for communication professionals. Students deepen these understandings and sharpen their skills by specializing in one of three concentrations: Relational and Organizational Communication, Media Studies, and Strategic Communication. Further, a wide range of Experiential Learning courses gives students hands-on experience in communication and media practices to prepare them for their careers. Together, this mix of theory and practice prepares students for a lifetime of personal, civic, and professional communication, including careers in various fields, such as: human resources, training and development; journalism, broadcasting, and filmmaking; digital/social media strategy and management; strategic communication for corporations, non-profits, and government entities; and many others.
Concentrations
Relational and Organizational Communication
Strong communication skills are among the top skills employers demand. This concentration will help you learn and practice the communication skills employers want, and the skills that will help you succeed in your career. These skills include: listening, writing, interpersonal communication, interviewing, networking, leadership, conflict management, and intercultural communication. The concentration leads to careers in a variety of fields, such as: human resources, sales & marketing, training & development, consulting, management, fundraising/development, recruiting, and dispute resolution.
Media Studies
The media studies concentration teaches students how to navigate an increasingly mediated and information-infused environment by developing their media literacy skills, theoretical and critical competence, as well as aesthetic and ethical sensibilities. The scholarly focus of the concentration is on four main areas: (1) Critical/cultural media studies with focus on power and identity in national, regional, and global contexts; (2) History, theory & production of digital media (journalism, radio, video/TV/digital film-making); (3) Media governance studies; and (4) Media effects. Graduates of this concentration typically pursue careers in broadcast, film and radio production, or continue their education in graduate programs.
Strategic Communication
Strategic Communication is the management function that identifies, establishes and maintains mutually beneficial relationships between an organization and the various publics on whom its success or failure depends. The discipline is a comprehensive communication concentration blending traditional and digital communication skills, that prepare our students for careers in the global workforce.
