For highly-motivated students, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a combined bachelor and master’s degree program in Computer Science and Library and Information Science. The program allows you to complete your undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years of full-time study.
The combination of the two degrees will prepare you for a career managing an information system or computer network in a variety of settings in both the public and private sector. With so much information now housed digitally, employers are seeking professionals with the special knowledge and training to manage that information. The skills you’ll acquire in the Computer Science / Library and Information Science combined degree program will allow you to meet that need.
Courses
As an undergraduate, you will complete the following graduate Library and Information Science required courses:
- LIS 203 Information Organization
- LIS 204 Introduction to Library and Information Science
- LIS 205 Information Sources and Services
- LIS 248 Database Applications, Modeling, and Design
Once you graduate with your B.S., you will complete LIS 239 (Research and Evaluation Methods), LIS 240 (Management of Libraries and Information Centers), and 18 graduate elective credits in Library and Information Science to earn the M.S.
