Speech-Language Pathologists are professionals who assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. Audiologists are professionals who diagnose, treat and help prevent hearing and balance problems. Both professions require a graduate degree for entry into the respective fields.
You can prepare for careers in this exciting field through the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on both the Queens and Staten Island campuses. Through this 126-credit degree program, students will gain an understanding of the process of human development and communication and how these processes can become impaired.
Career Outcomes
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the occupational outlook for careers in the speech-language pathology and audiology field are expected to increase by 18 percent now through the year 2018. Due to the growing need for speech-pathologists in hospitals, schools, outpatient clinics, hearing centers and nursing care facilities, employers are always seeking highly qualified pathologists to add to their staffs.
