The course aims to enable health professions to make a significant contribution to knowledge in the field of clinical education, and to lead clinical education research in a range of environments and systems.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
Graduates of the course are expected to demonstrate specialised and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge relating to the theory and pedagogy, research and evidence, policy and practice of clinical education.
Skills
Graduates of the course are expected to demonstrate the capacity to independently:
- critique, reflect on, evaluate and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories relating to clinical education
- integrate a complex body of knowledge and analytical and practical skills related to clinical education
- explore the interconnections between clinical education theory and practice
- interpret and communicate knowledge, skills, ideas and solutions related to clinical education to specialist and non-specialist audiences, including stakeholders within the health professions, universities, health services, governments and community
- lead clinical education research in a range of environments and systems, and
- make a significant contribution to advancing clinical education knowledge and practice.
Application of knowledge and skills
Graduates of the course are expected to demonstrate:
- autonomy, expertise, adaptability and responsibility as a clinical education scholar
- capacity to independently plan, conduct and disseminate clinical education research
- capacity to make a significant contribution to extending or redefining existing understandings in clinical education, and
- expert judgement relating to the theory and pedagogy, research and evidence, and policy and practice of clinical education.
Students who successfully complete the course will be eligible to apply for admission to a PhD.

Graduates are able to contribute to the education profession in today’s dynamic and demanding health service settings through new and innovative approaches to clinical education. They are suitable for careers in clinical teaching in the government and private health sectors.
