Get a strong foundation in the systematic development of electrical systems, such as renewable power generation and motors. The degree looks to the future with an emphasis on renewable energy systems and electrical drive systems.
What you will study
First year
A typical first year may include:
- core topics in electronics, professional skills, engineering design, engineering programming, engineering physics and materials, engineering mechanics, and mathematics.
Second year
A typical second year may include:
- core topics in computer programming, electrical circuits and machines, engineering mathematics, automation and industrial control, analysis of engineering systems, electronic circuits, sensors and actuators, and electrical engineering principles.
Third year
A typical third year may include:
- core topics in electromagnetics, project management for engineering and science, control systems, electrical energy systems, workplace preparation, and electrical power systems
- a 20-week industry placement.
Honours year
A typical honours year may include:
- a major electrical engineering honours thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research
- topics in renewable energy systems, and standards, ethics and compliance
- a selection of electives in allied science and engineering areas.
Your career
This degree was created to address a worldwide shortage of professional electrical engineers. This demand for electrical engineers is increasing. Electrical engineering links directly with mechanical and electronics engineering in fields such as ship building, renewable energy systems, the mining industry and research in general.
