The Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language is grounded in linguistic principles, language learning theory and empirical research on language learning and teaching. The program enables students to teach effectively in varied learning contexts. Students gain experience through supervised practice and have the opportunity to teach in a variety of English-as-a-second/foreign-language contexts. Graduates are prepared for international teaching, adult education and literacy positions.
The Teaching English as a Second Language major includes the following optional concentration:
The TESL Education concentration prepares students for P-12 school educators. Students' practice takes place in schools, and students have the opportunity to teach in a variety of contexts.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Demonstrate their understanding of different associated fields within TESL, including linguistics, language acquisition, pedagogy and practice.
- Demonstrate what they know about the field and disciplines making up TESL.
- Demonstrate their skills in teaching.
- Demonstrate their understanding of different cultural norms and practices and their ability to accommodate teaching practices based on these differences.

為來自中國的學生設計 Student must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum 3.000 graduate GPA on a 4.000 point scale (minimum 3.250 graduate GPA is recommended). Applicants must obtain a minimum score of TOEFL Paper Based Test is 550 (79 on the Internet based version), the minimum score of MELAB is 77 or IELTS minimum score of 6.5 and the minimum score of PTE academic is 58.
