The Bachelor of Science in Botany focuses on the scientific study of plants, and the understanding of how plants provide aesthetic beauty as well as materials for the basic needs, including food, shelter and oxygen. Botanical research has diverse applications in modern horticulture, agriculture, soil science and forestry, in addition to pharmacology and biotechnology. After earning their bachelor's, many students continue their education in graduate or professional programs. Those opting to enter directly into the workforce find jobs in fields related to the economic importance of plants, including agriculturally-based and related professions, environmental consulting or in federal, state or local agencies. The Department of Biological Sciences offers several mechanisms to help students prepare for their future careers.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental biological principles as outlined in specific courses.
- Acquire fundamental skills necessary for laboratory and field investigations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of proper experimental design, analysis of biological data and communication of research results.
- Demonstrate a greater knowledge and appreciation of the role that biology plays in societal issues, such as those related to the environment, biodiversity, ethics, human health and disease.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 New freshmen applicants must finish secondary school in their home country by the time of enrollment to be eligible for university (comparable to the completion of senior high school in the U.S.). Freshmen should meet the minimum requirement of GPA 2.5 on a U.S. 4.0 scale. Applicants must obtain a minimum score of TOEFL Paper Based Test is 525 (71 on the Internet based version), the minimum score of MELAB is 75 or IELTS minimum score of 6.0 and the minimum score of PTE academic is 48.
