Pursue your career goals as a professional string musician by combining advanced solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire performance training and related academic study with performance opportunities throughout New York City. You'll work closely with our renowned faculty in weekly private lessons and participate in repertoire classes that focus on solo performance and pedagogy.
Tailor your curriculum toward your specific interests and musical goals through two core courses in music research and music history/literature; six courses in music performance, including various private instruction, ensemble, chamber music, workshop, repertoire, and string classes; and three elective courses in subjects such as music theory, performing arts administration, music business, music technology, and other related areas of interest. You will learn to analyze the performance practices, both historical and contemporary, informing the performance of repertoire from the 18th–21st centuries.
Careers and Outcomes
You’ll get the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve a high level of musical excellence, enabling you to pursue a career as a professional musician. You will demonstrate and apply entrepreneurial skills essential to the real and varied world of the music profession, including concert programming, grant writing, promotional/audience development, website design, and press releases.
