The M.A. degree in Hebrew and Judaic studies is awarded to students who have completed at least 32 points of graduate course work (a minimum of 24 points in residence at New York University), including the required HBRJD-GA 1004, Recent Developments in Hebrew and Judaic Studies, demonstrated proficiency in Hebrew and at least one additional foreign language, passed a written comprehensive examination, completed a research paper in a departmental seminar, and obtained certification from two members of the department that the paper demonstrates research competence appropriate to the M.A. level.
The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies has a cooperative arrangement with the Program in Museum Studies that allows students to pursue the M.A. degree in Hebrew and Judaic Studies with a concentration in Museum Studies. Completion of the M.A. with this concentration requires 40 points, of which 24 are taken in Hebrew and Judaic Studies and 16 in Museum Studies including two of History and Theory of Museums, MSMS-GA 1500, Museum Collections and Exhibitions, MSMS-GA 1501, and Museum Management, MSMS-GA 1502, and 8 points of Museum Studies electives. Also required is a non-credit full summer internship in a museum or cultural institution; and all examination, course, and paper requirements for the standard M.A. degree in Hebrew and Judaic Studies.
