Open only to NYU College of Arts and Science students, this accelerated dual-degree program allows you to complete your BA in English and MA in Teaching English in only five years. You'll receive a broad liberal arts education at the undergraduate level and a professional education at the graduate level.
What you'll learn:
- Teaching methods that foster critical thought and provoke inquiry-based learning
- Classroom strategies that are innovative and appropriate for teaching students in urban educational environments
- Pedagogical and English core content knowledge, and current issues and trends in English education.
Upon graduation from this dual degree, you’ll be eligible for New York State initial teaching certification for grades 7–12 and be prepared for a variety of careers, including:
- Teacher of English in middle schools, secondary schools, and colleges
- English curriculum specialist, coordinator, or evaluator in schools and school districts
- English teacher educator in colleges and universities
- Editor or publisher in textbook and educational publishing
