Our Master of Arts in Linguistics is designed to provide students with a solid foundational knowledge of the traditional core areas of linguistic analysis, as well as a deeper specialization in a chosen subfield. The program emphasizes completion of an independent research project in Linguistics.
Our graduates continue on to pursue more advanced work in Linguistics at the PhD level, or in related fields with a commitment to the study of language. Other graduates pursue careers in education, speech and language technologies, and work on endangered languages.
Degree Requirements
The Master of Arts in Linguistics requires 36 graduate hours in Linguistics. Twenty-one of the 36 hours are in core required courses, the remainder in electives. In addition to maintaining an overall 3.0 average in all courses, students must also obtain a minimum of a ‘B’ in each of the required courses (‘B-’ is not acceptable in these courses) and a minimum of a ‘C’ in each elective course (‘C-’ is not acceptable).

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants must have a bachelor's degree. Minimum score of 550 paper-based or 80 internet based (iBT) score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); A minimum of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
