The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program and the Department of History combined degree pathway allows students with an interest in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and in the discipline of History to enroll simultaneously in both programs and to count 30 credits of coursework toward fulfillment of the requirements for both graduate degrees. Essential criteria relating to the degree programs are outlined below.
This degree pathway provides qualified students an opportunity to pursue advanced training in History, as well as provide area studies expertise in Latin America and/or the Caribbean. The combined degree pathway helps to further a student’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by increasing their disciplinary versatility while broadening their knowledge of a vast and diverse region. The combined degree pathway is also economically appealing because it allows students to complete two degrees in less time than if the degrees were to be pursued sequentially and provides more scholarship opportunities for MALACS students.
