Pharmacology is the study of how drugs affect the body and how the body affects drugs. Pharmacology is one of the most exciting areas of biomedical research because you can have a real impact on human health while working in the lab. Pharmacology is multidisciplinary, bringing together ideas from chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology and integrative biology to create a comprehensive framework for understanding and treating disease. Here, at the University of Michigan Department of Pharmacology, we have assembled a diverse group of outstanding scientists who work together to advance the forefronts of new knowledge to develop novel therapeutic approaches for treatment of disease. There are a number of exciting opportunities for students to work with leaders in the field in one of the top Pharmacology departments in the world.
The M.S. degree program is designed to be flexible and to serve a variety of career objectives. Sample next steps for our alumni include:

Course Requirements
The M.S. degree involves a mixture of coursework and independent research. Much of the coursework is the same as that taken by our Ph.D. students. The research component can be satisfied by either an independent laboratory research project or an in-depth literature survey of a topic of current pharmacological significance.
If pursued full-time, the program takes twelve months. The 33-credit course load includes:
Principles of Pharmacology Autonomic Pharmacology Endocrine Pharmacology Molecular Neuropharmacology Cancer and Antimicrobial Pharmacology Cardiovascular Pharmacology Translational Pharmacology Data Processing and Analysis for Biomedical Scientists Electives (Biochemical Regulatory Mechanisms, Translational Research and Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship) 12 credits of independent research

Other English Language Requirements: Paper/Pencil TOEFL & TWE score of 560; MELAB score of 80.
