The Design and Technologies for Learning thread focuses on preparing professionals working with or creating content for learners across a wide variety of ages and instructional contexts. From school- age to adult education, students will integrate ideas from contemporary research in learning sciences and other theoretical perspectives on learning, literacy, culture, technology, and media to explore and actively practice the design, assessment, and application of educational practice in formal and informal settings. Students will also have opportunities to explore research that describes the cognitive processes and sociocultural practices at play as people construct, produce, use and understand information. Students become knowledgeable in, and gain the ability to, examine theory, research, and design with a critical eye towards improving outcomes for all learners.
Requirements Total credit hours: 30
Core requirements (10 credits):

Thread courses (9 credits):
Students select three of the following courses, for a total of (9) credits: EDUC 500: Foundations of Literacy EDUC 503: Media Literacies EDUC 524: Inquiry on Educational Issues EDUC 525: Language and Learning in Home and School Settings EDUC 547: Workforce Education EDUC 560: Everyday Equitable Practice EDUC 656: Critical Perspectives on the Global Role of English EDUC 601: Transformative Learning and Teaching with Technology (SI 549) EDUC 603: Design-Based Research for Assessing Learning Environments EDUC 604: Curriculum Evaluation and Development EDUC 626: Principles of Software and New Media Design for Learning (SI 548) EDUC 644: Comparative and International Education EDUC 645: Education and Cultural Studies
Electives (9 credits):
Students select 9 credits of additional coursework from available U-M offerings, both in and outside of the School of Education.
Internship (2 credits):
Students elect a total of 2 credits.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants must complete a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association; or Complete an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned. Other English Language Requirements: Paper/Pencil TOEFL & TWE score of 560; MELAB score of 80.
