A world-class faculty provide rigorous training in mainstream jazz as well as the systematic exploration of more open, eclectic forms of improvisation. The department combines traditional and innovative coursework, cultivating an unsurpassed level of creativity, resulting in the development of skills that are key to success.
Designed for students who want the flexibility to pursue more coursework within the liberal arts in addition to an education in music. This is an interdisciplinary degree with a larger commitment to liberal arts.
Curriculum
The Bachelor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies requires a minimum of 120 credits: coursework is approximately 50% within SMTD and 50% within the liberal arts. The liberal arts coursework can be tailored to a student’s specific interests.
Students will elect either a performance or multidisciplinary track. SMTD coursework to include:
Performance Track
Private lessons Music Theory Musicology Ensemble participation: at least two terms of band, orchestra, or choir; two additional terms of any ensemble Piano
Multidisciplinary Track
Private lessons Music Theory Musicology Ensemble participation: four terms of at least two different ensembles Piano Performing Arts Technology

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
