A national leader in music education, the department is home to degree programs of extraordinary quality and diversity, and one of the top PhD programs in the world. The department is dedicated to providing future music educators with the necessary knowledge, skills, and insights for successful teaching and learning.
Designed for students who wish to teach instrumental music in elementary and secondary schools. Applicants should have an extensive background in at least one band or orchestral instrument, including private lessons and experience in bands and orchestras. Study of other instruments, including piano, is desirable. Demonstration of performance competence on a band or orchestral instrument is required.
Curriculum
The Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education requires a minimum of 130 credits: coursework is composed of 40 hours of performance and a minimum of 25-26 non-SMTD credits. SMTD coursework to include:

Double-Major in Music Performance
Education students may pursue a double-major in Education and Performance. The Bachelor of Music in Performance is designed for those vocalists and instrumentalists who wish to prepare for a professional performance career.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
