A world-class faculty provide rigorous training in mainstream jazz as well as the systematic exploration of more open, eclectic forms of improvisation. The department combines traditional and innovative coursework, cultivating an unsurpassed level of creativity, resulting in the development of skills that are key to success.
Designed for students who want to combine strong foundations in both mainstream jazz and classical training, as well as more eclectic approaches to contemporary improvised music. Applicants should have an extensive background on an instrument and demonstrated improvisational skills. This degree is not available for jazz guitar.
Curriculum
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation requires a minimum of 120 credits: coursework is 75% within SMTD and 25% within the liberal arts. SMTD coursework to include:

為來自中國的學生設計 Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
