A major in Spanish allows students considerable flexibility in developing a program of study leading to competence in the language and a broad knowledge of Hispanic cultures and literatures. Course offerings are grouped into four clusters from which students will select a program of study based on their interests and career plans:
Hispanic Communities: For students interested in acquiring a broad knowledge of the diverse societies and cultures in the Spanish-speaking world. Included in this cluster are courses on culture, literature, and cinema throughout Spain and Latin America, as well as community service and internship courses. Communication and Thought: For students who wish to focus on language, linguistics, translation, communication in literature and other media, as well as the relationships between language, religion, society, and politics. Power, Politics, and Cultural Production: For students interested in political and economic issues in the Spanish-speaking world, as expressed in film, literature, and music, historically and in the present-day. Race and Gender: For students who wish to explore issues of gender and race among the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
In selecting courses for a given area of specialization, students should refer to the RLL website and discuss their interests with a department advisor. No specific courses are required, nor is it necessary to declare an area of specialization.
The Spanish major and Spanish minor gives you the opportunity to develop language proficiency while expanding your knowledge of Hispanic cultures and literature. Many Spanish majors and minors combine their studies with fields such as political science (pre-law), pre-med, American culture, organizational studies, communications, psychology, and economics.

為來自中國的學生設計 Other English Language Requirements: MELAB (plus speaking): 85 range with section scores 80+ and 3+ in speaking; TOEFL (PBT): 600 range with section scores 57+; ECPE: Certificate with all sections at least a C; CAE or CPE: 185 with no less than 180+ in all sections (CEFR C1);PTE Academic: 68 with all sections equally strong.
