The Interdepartmental Program of study in a major in Latin American and Caribbean Studies is designed to provide students with a rigorous, multi-disciplinary approach to the study of Latin America and the Caribbean. A broad base of knowledge is established by the requirement of a core of upper-level work in languages, the social sciences, and the humanities. Analytical depth is demonstrated through the completion of a senior thesis under appropriate faculty supervision.
The major in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) is designed to provide students with a rigorous, multidisciplinary approach to the study of Latin America and the Caribbean. Students will establish a broad base of knowledge via a core of upper-level work in languages, the social sciences, and the humanities.
The major and minor programs in Latin American and Caribbean Studies are both broad-based and multi-disciplinary, offering students a panoramic perspective of the region and the opportunity to tighten the focus almost anywhere. LACS honors majors tighten the focus even further, working closely with faculty advisors, conducting in-depth investigations into particular areas of interest, which culminate in an honors thesis.
