The Social, Personality, and Affective Science concentration is designed to provide appropriate preparation and experience to students who intend to proceed to doctoral study, as well as for students who intend to develop careers at the master's level in research, community college teaching, or applications of social, personality, and affective science. The program emphasizes achievement of competency in research skills (design, implementation, and interpretation of findings), familiarity with the theoretical and empirical literature of the discipline, and proficiency in application of social, personality, and affective science to the solution of social problems; e.g., peace and conflict resolution, intergroup relations, and cultural diversity in modern society.
Program Learning Outcomes
- To acquire broad familiarity with the empirical and theoretical literature of Social Psychology, and to gain in-depth knowledge of one or more specific domains of research and application.
- To gain professional-level skills in written and oral communication of concepts and research in Social Psychology.
- To become proficient in research design, and in the independent conduct of research projects.
- To develop intellectual maturity and career-relevant experience through supervised research and/or applied endeavors in Social Psychology and group dynamics.
- To appreciate the nature and importance of ethical principles in research and applications in Social Psychology.

English language requirement: Minimum score of 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 80 on the internet-based (iBT) test; International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5 overall band score; Pearson Test of English (PTE): minimum score of 55.
