In cooperation with the School of Library and Information Science, Urban Studies Programs offers a MS/MLIS program to prepare students for positions as urban information specialists in major urban public libraries and in the information and research centers of universities and federal, state, and local governments, and research institutions. Students will graduate from the program with a strong background in history and current policy issues of urban communities, familiarity with the diverse client groups comprising urban communities, an understanding of the role and management of public service institutions, and skills in program development, needs assessment, program evaluation and the methods of policy research.
Students in this program concurrently pursue a Masters’ degree in Urban Studies (MS) and a MLIS degree. Prerequisite to the award of either degree in this program is the simultaneous award of its counterpart degree.
Students in the MS/MLIS program follow all of the requirements and standards as described in this section of the Bulletin with the following joint exceptions: 21 of the 24 credits, including the optional 3 credits for a master’s thesis, required for the Urban Studies portion of the joint degree are taken within USP. All courses in related areas and any exceptions to the 21 credit rule must be reviewed by the Coordinator of Urban Studies. All courses selected are expected to be consistent with the objectives of the Urban Studies program.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Applicants for admission to the UWM Graduate School must have the following: A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as determined by the UWM Centre on International Education, from a regionally accredited institution, completed before the first term of enrolment in the Graduate School. Students applying to approved integrated bachelor’s/master’s programs are exempt from this requirement, A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent measure on a grading system that does not use a 4.0 scale. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) results with a minimum required score of 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) and a minimum recommended sub-score of 18 in each skill). IELTS (International English Language Testing System) results with a minimum required score of 6.5, with minimum recommended sub-score of 6.0 in each skill.
