MALLT is an interdisciplinary MA degree program focused on global languages, literatures and translation. With faculty from five different departments, MALLT offers a flexible program of study tailored to your professional goals.
Concentrations in two areas: 36 credits minimum
Students completing a double concentration take two core seminars (6 cr) and five courses in two areas of concentration (10 courses/30 cr). Both concentrations appear on your UWM transcript.
Examples of double concentrations:
- Two languages (e.g., Spanish and French)
- A language and Comparative Literature
- A language and Linguistics
- A language and Translation (e.g., German & German Translation)
MALLT Thesis Option
- Not required for MALLT degree, but recommended for students intending to pursue a doctoral degree; does not replace Comprehensive Examinations.
- Timing: Propose a thesis topic, in consultation with your Major Professor, after 9-15 credit hours of courses, but before your general Plan of Study is reviewed and finalized.
- Credits: Maximum 6 credits. A 3-cr thesis replaces one course; a 6-cr thesis, 2 courses (one in your concentration, one “related”). Core Seminars cannot be replaced.
- MA/MLIS degree program: Thesis credits are in addition to the 21 required MALLT credits.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants for admission to the UWM Graduate School must have the following: A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as determined by the UWM Centre on International Education, from a regionally accredited institution, completed before the first term of enrolment in the Graduate School. Students applying to approved integrated bachelor’s/master’s programs are exempt from this requirement, A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent measure on a grading system that does not use a 4.0 scale. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) results with a minimum required score of 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) and a minimum recommended sub-score of 18 in each skill). IELTS (International English Language Testing System) results with a minimum required score of 6.5, with minimum recommended sub-score of 6.0 in each skill.
