The Master of Arts in Reading and Literacy provides theory, research, knowledge and field experiences for students planning to teach literacy. Reading and writing are presented as linguistic, cognitive and socio-cultural processes in relation to other language arts. This program organizes the student experience around a cohort model. Students work with their cohort director (academic advisor) to select their coursework and its sequence according to their professional needs and the degree requirements.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students completing this degree are qualified to work in a variety of settings as reading specialists, literacy coaches, adjunct college instructors, and adult literacy teachers. Career options also include administrative positions in libraries and in private and community reading centers. K-12 teachers in this concentration learn to enhance their literacy instruction with research-based transformative practices and may qualify for advance certification by the state of Texas.
PROGRAM OPTIONS
Students select from the following program options:
General (Thesis Option) - 33 credit hours General (Non-Thesis Option) - 36 credit hours
Reading Specialist Certification (Non-Thesis Option) - 36 credit hours
Students planning to pursue the Reading Specialist Certification must meet additional requirements and be accepted into the certification program. Select coursework will lead to completion of the requirements for State Board for Educator Certification as a Reading Specialist.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited xadcollege or university in the United States or have proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution. A minimum grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from an awarded master's or bachelor's degree may be admitted with no conditions. TOEFL Internet 79, TOEFL Paper 60, IELTS 6.5.
