Educators wishing to broaden their theoretical understanding of curriculum and instruction, to increase their knowledge and skills in their content specializations, to pursue additional endorsements, and to develop new strategies and materials for their classrooms should consider the Master of Arts in Education, with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. Successful completion of this program contributes to the professional development of educators, prepares them for roles of leadership within their subject areas and schools, and leads to advanced graduate study.
The MA in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction core courses are offered through distance education modalities; many of the elective strand courses are offered this way as well. We recommend that you consult with your advisor and with program staff to ensure that you make consistent progress through the program.
The Master of Arts degree in Education is offered in two options:
- Plan A, which requires writing a thesis
- Plan B, which requires a written paper based on a scholarly project
A minimum of 32 semester hours beyond the Bachelor’s degree is required. All course work and degree requirements must be approved by the student’s graduate committee.
The Master of Arts degree in Education consists of a set of core courses and one of three emphases: Certificates/Endorsements, Content Studies, or Curriculum Studies.
Learner Outcomes
Academic Knowledge: Students will demonstrate a deep understanding of knowledge bases related to curriculum, instruction, learning, and core concepts in more specialized areas of interest. (EDCI 5000 Principles of Curriculum)

Reflective Inquiry: Students will demonstrate a reflective stance toward their professional practice and competence with the key tools of inquiry related to this practice. (EDRE 5550 Action Research)
Democratic Commitment: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between schooling and the complex process of democracy and a commitment to pursue this process with a focus on access to quality education for all learners in their own professional work. Professional Engagement: Students will demonstrate an intellectual engagement with education as an area of scholarly inquiry. (EDCI 5400 Midpoint Portfolio Reflection)

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 A bachelor's degree from an accredited or recognized school is required. A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on previous coursework is required for full admission (3.25 for interdisciplinary program applicants). Proof of English Proficiency: A minimum score of 540 on the written exam, or 76 on the Internet-based test; IELTS: A minimum score of 6.0 is required for admission.
