Course summary
- Cover the core knowledge and competencies required for a career in environmental management.
- Specialise in wildlife and landscape management, international resource management, or design your own course based on modules offered for the above two routes.
Many of the staff teaching on the course have worked in the sector, and retain a strong involvement with it. As a result they are able to draw on their own experience and use a range of case studies in their teaching.
How you learn
You are encouraged to become an active, self-directed learner. We aim to provide a supportive, inclusive yet challenging learning experience that will help you achieve your ambitions. Lectures will introduce you to key theories, concepts, and current debates, with guest lecturers and site visits illustrating the concepts and issues being explored. Assessment is entirely through coursework, using tasks that you are likely to do as part of your professional role.

Future careers
The environmental management sector is broad and so offers a wide range of employment opportunities. The environmental consultancy sector, which spans both ecology and resource management, is strong and so is the main source of employment for our graduates.
Other employment opportunities include
- government agencies
- advising on the development and implementation of an environmental management system in almost any business
- voluntary conservation organisations, such as the RSPB and the County Wildlife Trusts
- national park authorities and local authority countryside services
