Course summary
- Become eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) - which is compulsory for practising dietitians in the UK.
- Gain advanced qualifications in dietetics.
- Learn through practice placements and academic study.
On this course, you’ll gain a unique understanding of nutrition, food composition, diet and metabolism - and how diet therapy can be used to promote health and treat acute and long term conditions to achieve effective care for service users. You’ll apply your learning on useful practice placements, and reflect on your work in concurrent taught sessions. You’ll graduate as a skilled, autonomous practitioner, ready for employment in a range of health and social care settings (including the NHS).
How you learn
Throughout the course, your taught modules will be reinforced by group discussion and directed study. Simulated and practical experiential learning activities will enable you to apply theory to practice.
You’ll develop a critical approach to the evidence that underpins dietetics - gaining a deeper understanding of current issues at the forefront of clinical practice. This will prepare you for conducting your own research in the field.
You learn through
- four practice placements in a variety of health and social care settings
- academic study and coursework
- a substantial final year project/dissertation focusing on researching practice
Future careers
This course prepares you for a career in dietetics in the following settings
- health and social care (including the NHS acute, primary care and mental health settings,
- public health and wellbeing/ health promotion
- voluntary and independent sectors e.g. Service user organisations, Food Industry, Media, Research, Higher Education, and Private Practice
Accreditation
Provides eligibility to apply for HCPC registration as a dietitian. This course is accredited by the British Dietetic Association (BDA) as delivering the approved pre-registration curriculum framework.
