The acting major at Western Michigan University offers a wide range of opportunities with focus on acting skills for both stage and film; vocal training, movement and physical acting; analysis and history. This rigorous program provides the flexibility to focus on the areas of training that will help you develop the skill set for the type of actor you want to be. You will strengthen your performance skills, gain a broad knowledge of the theatre arts and have ample opportunities to perform. We prepare you to succeed.
Beyond the classroom
If you choose to major in acting at WMU, you will receive a wide range of performance opportunities in the Department of Theatre's nine-show season presented in three state-of-the-art theatres. Additional performance opportunities are provided through student-directed Footlight productions, directing classes, and the New Play Project offered each summer in coordination with the Activate Midwest New Play Festival. Acting majors also have the opportunity to explore an interest in directing.
Professional and summer stock companies conduct on-campus auditions, and you will have multiple opportunities to showcase your talent for industry agents and casting directors from New York and Chicago.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) A minimum score of 61 iBT is required. Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) A minimum score of 69 is required. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module. A minimum score of 6.0 is required. Pearson Test of English Academic Module. A minimum score of 45 is required.
