The Early Childhood Education programs are committed to critical multicultural perspectives, linguistic diversity, and multilingualism, as well as continued analysis of the circumstances within society in which young children and their families are expected to live and be educated. The programs use coursework, seminars, independent study, and a grounding in diverse research methodologies to prepare students to become scholars and leaders in the early childhood field.
The UNT Child Development Laboratory and the Velma E. Schmidt Equity and Diversity in Early Education Research Initiatives further extend opportunities for student involvement in research, program evaluation, and early childhood policy studies.
The MS in Early Childhood Education at the University of North Texas is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge for working in the field. The program provides critical theoretical and research-based perspectives on young children's lives and learning in diverse settings. The program is meant to develop Early Childhood Leaders who facilitate culturally responsive curricula in classroom learning environments as well as advocate for all young children in ways that increase equitable opportunity and social justice in their lives overall and in the care and education environments that serve them.
The MS in Early Childhood Education is delivered as a 30-hour Accelerated Online Program, which can be completed in one year.
The face-to-face delivery of UNT’s Master of Science in Early Childhood Education may be made available for international institutions and agencies interested in sponsoring a cohort of students. For additional information on this option, please, contact the Program Coordinator.
