About the M.F.A. in Fashion Design
The Master of Fine Arts program in the CVAD Department of Design seeks to create an educational experience that provides students with an understanding of the pedagogy of teaching and focused research and design within the academy that supports the burgeoning needs of their profession in a world that is becoming more interconnected and interdependent. The program does not assist students who wish to build a portfolio or enhance their skills; its mission is to prepare graduates to be effective design educators, managers and professionals while helping them expand their ability to build and apply knowledge in the field of fashion design.
Program Requirements
A minimum of 60 semester credit hours, including 30 hours of studio. Candidates are expected to prepare an exhibition of their work for presentation to the public. Fashion Design concentration, 21–30 hours (minimum)
An independent study is arranged through faculty advisement.
- Art history, 12 hours
- Minor, 9–15 hours
- Research methods, 3 hours
- Problem study in lieu of a thesis, 6 hours
