The undergraduate program in Recreation, Event and Sport Management emphasizes human development, communication studies, the study of leisure, and how to plan, design, lead, and evaluate recreation and leisure programs.
Students with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Event and Sport Management are prepared to enter the recreation services industry. The provision of recreation services is one of the largest industries in the world, whether measured in dollars spent, persons served, hours of time devoted, or resources used. There are a number of opportunities available to graduates depending on their area of focus. Recreation and leisure are essential to the total well-being of every person. They can also be a reflection and expression of the cultural values of a society, or an important therapeutic treatment modality.
There are two possible interest areas for a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Event and Sport Management:
- Sport Management - prepares students for coaching and sports management.
- Program Management - this interest area includes a minor outside of the department chosen in collaboration with an advisor.
