The College of Education offers prospective teachers a well-designed program that is nationally accredited by CAEP (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation). It provides multiple opportunities for field experience in public schools through a collaborative Professional Development School (PDS) model, and an option to become certified for ESL or bilingual education along with a grade-level and/or content-area focus.
Programs for teaching Grades 4 through 8 (4-8) are offered in the following certification areas: English Language Arts/Reading with ESL, Mathematics with ESL, Science with ESL, and Social Studies with ESL.
The Bachelor of Science with a major in interdisciplinary studies (with EC-6 or 4-8 teacher certification) develops highly qualified teachers through a rigorous curriculum with high standards. District administrators report that our graduates are as prepared in their first year of teaching as second- and third-year teachers.
