Program Overview
The Master of Science in Nursing in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner online program (AG PCNP) prepares advanced practice nurses as primary care providers to manage the health of individuals from adolescence through adulthood and the end of life. Practitioner emphasis is on health promotion, illness prevention, the management of minor acute illnesses, and chronic complex health management needs of older adults to maximize their health, functional status, and independence. The AG PCNP program is designed to provide students with leadership skills and the ability to synthesize and apply research to maximize healthcare delivery services for adults, older adults and their families.
Coursework includes advanced health assessment, the role of the nurse in advanced practice, adult gerontology management across the continuum, primary care clinical practice and an advanced clinical nursing practicum.
Graduates are well-prepared for careers in gerontology and adult care and are highly employable. First-time certification pass rates for UTA nurse practitioner programs exceed 95%, among the highest in the U.S.

Advancement of skills required in assessment, diagnosis and management of the health needs of adults and their families

Preparation to collaborate with health professionals and use essential resources to implement quality, continuous care to adults and families, and to coordinate the delivery of quality healthcare across the continuum of elder services with multidisciplinary teams
Includes instruction in the provision of healthcare to elder adults and their families that maximize quality of life and promote a peaceful death when appropriate
Graduates are eligible to take the National Certification Exam as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and are then eligible to be recognized and licensed as advanced practice nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing.
