Program Description
Learn the fundamental principles of the universe as you develop analytical skills that apply to careers in research, financial management, computing and teaching. Whether you want to study the behaviour of matter and energy on the smallest scale (nuclei, atoms and other basic constituents of matter) or the grandest (stars and galaxies), CMU’s physics major offers something for everyone with concentrations in astronomy, chemistry-physics education and physics education.u200bu200b
Physics Major
Total: 38-53 semester hours
CMU offers a rigorous physics program that promotes thoughtful inquiry and prepares you well for graduate studies or a physics-related career. A degree in physics may qualify you for a wide range of positions related to different areas such as engineering, mathematics, computer science and environmental science; and for those with the appropriate background, some nonscience fields as well, such as finance.
As an undergraduate, you'll learn from our excellent faculty and find the equipment, facilities and resources you need to dig into the scientific and technological work that will help prepare you for your future.

English language requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT), International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77), Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53), ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112.
