Program Description
Students in the music degree program at Central Michigan University study in extraordinary facilities work closely with expert faculty and seek advanced musical skills. They value the liberal arts and are dedicated learners. Whether earning a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, you’ll become adept in music theory, composition, history and performance as you prepare for a career in the arts, business, industry or government or go on to graduate study.
Music is a passion and you want to share it with others. At CMU you’ll become adept in music performance, theory, history and pedagogy — music studies that prepare you to teach or gain admission to the most selective graduate programs. Students work closely with distinguished artists and teachers to develop professional skills, knowledge and strategies for K-12 teaching in music. CMU alumni teach in elementary and secondary schools throughout Michigan and across the United States, in university settings, and in community arts education programs. They also work in a variety of related fields, such as publishing, music business, merchandising, and arts management.

English language requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT), International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77), Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53), ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112.
