Program Description
You’ll learn to educate the next generation as you prepare for one of the world’s most important professions. CMU’s elementary education students master the basics of teaching math, language arts, reading, science and social studies in classrooms ranging from prekindergarten through eighth grade. You’ll choose from a variety of majors. Pre student teaching and student teaching experiences offer you a variety of options, both minutes away from campus or abroad.u200bu200b
Students interested in obtaining the Michigan Provisional Teaching Certificate must complete the Bachelor of Science in Education degree in the desired level and appropriate content area(s), including the following:
- Early Child Development & Learning
- English as Second Language minor
- Integrated Science
- Language Arts
- Mathematics
- Reading in Elementary Grades minor
- Social Studies: Geography
- Social Studies: History

English language requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (minimum score of 550 PBT, 213 CBT, or 79 IBT), International English Language Testing System (minimum score of 6.5), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (minimum score of 77), Pearson Test of English (minimum score of 53), ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112.
