In CMU’s early childhood development and learning program, you’ll explore crucial development and learning strategies that prepare children — from infants through second grade — for lifelong success. Through structured studies that meet the training guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, you’ll be positioned for careers in early childhood settings, including Head Start programs, preschools and child care centers. You’ll also observe and participate in CMU’s renowned Child Development and Learning Laboratory, an on-campus preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds.u200bu200b
Early Childhood Development and Learning is a field of study that examines the growth and development of children birth through age eight, within the context of teaching and working with children in educational and social settings. The courses in this major meet the course work requirements for early childhood education and preschool teaching by the Michigan Department of Education and the training guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), providing students with education, training, and skills to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds. This major is especially appropriate for students who plan on working in non-elementary school early childhood settings such as child care centers, preschools, Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
