Accounting is called the first language of business for good reason: the fate of many products and marketing campaigns hinges on the financial officer's final analysis. For this reason, successful accounting professionals often assume leadership roles within their companies. Whether you are interested in working within an existing organization or in starting your own business, understanding financial matters is vital to your success.
As part of the Paul College of Business and Economics, the business administration major with an accounting option will prepare you for a career in in a variety of fields, including internal and external audit, tax preparation and planning, and consulting. You’ll possess the qualifications to obtain certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). UNH’s Paul College has one of the highest CPA first-time pass rates in New England, and its accounting graduates are highly sought after. You also can take advantage of the 4+1 (five year) program to earn a M.S. in accounting at Paul College.

Program Objectives
The Option in Accounting prepares students for careers in accounting and the qualifications to obtain certifications, such as certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA), and certified internal auditor (CIA). Further, this option provides students with opportunities in a variety of fields, including internal audit, external audit, and tax preparation and planning, and consulting. Demand for accountants is consistently strong. Students may also take advantage of the four-one (5 year) program to earn a M.S. in accounting at Paul College. Obtaining a master's degree aids in preparation and eligibility for the CPA exam and is recommended for future career progression.

A student’s academic record, including program of study, class rigor, standing in their class, and achievement is of primary importance in assessing a student’s potential for success at UNH. Students should complete the following sequences of college preparatory coursework to be considered minimally qualified for baccalaureate admission to the University: Demonstrated proficiency in English, Three years of mathematics, Three years of science, Three years of social sciences and Two years of a single foreign language (If English is your first language). International students, whose primary language is not English, must submit the results of a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo. The recommended minimum TOEFL score is 213 (computer version) or 550 (paper version) or 80 (Internet version). The minimum IELTS acceptable proficiency grade is 6.5. The minimum Duolingo scores are 70.
