Bioinformatics focuses on translational research that uses computational means to transform biological data into discoveries that help us better understand - and improve - life. It's a discipline with such tremendous impact that further research exploration in the area is fully supported by the Indiana University Life Science Initiative, Indiana's own Bioscience Initiative and INGEN (Indiana Genomics Initiative).
The M.S. in Bioinformatics is a 36-credit-hour program that integrates knowledge from informatics, computer science, information systems, mathematics, biology and other related areas to create and implement applications that truly make a difference. Successful applicants are expected to have an introductory background in both computing and biology.
The program may be completed in two years by a full-time student. Part-time study options are available for domestic students. However, international students and any students funded directly by the School of Informatics and Computing (in the form of an assistantship or fellowship) must complete the program in two years.
