專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?
All physics majors study the foundations of the field: classical mechanics, classical electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, relativity, and statistical physics. They also learn a great deal of mathematics (more than is required for a minor), and a year of chemistry. Depending on individual career goals, physics majors may also take additional courses in chemistry and biology, courses in electrical or mechanical engineering, or additional courses in physics and mathematics.
What is Physics?
Physics is the study of matter and energy, from the smallest scale, as in the study of elementary particles, to the largest, as in the study of the formation and evolution of stars and galaxies. In this sense, physics is the science that underlies all other sciences.
Developments in basic physics drive technology, and technology helps physicists discover nature’s secrets.
What types of skills, beliefs and interests doe’s physics major need?
Physicists tend to view themselves as problem solvers, especially those problems that can be couched in mathematical terms. Physics students are trained to solve complex problems by learning to analyze complex relationships in mathematical terms.

Physics majors learn to be problems solvers, and to think rigorously and analytically. For this reason, physics majors often cross over into other fields with great success. Pre-meds who major in physics score higher on the MCAT (on average) than pre-meds who major in other fields. Physicists become patent attorneys, doctors, and financiers. Physicists have invented many of the fundamental technologies we rely on daily (from electric motors and generators to lasers and medical imaging systems). Physicists invented the World Wide Web-originally as a method for sharing data with collaborators around the world.
What careers are available?
Because of a broad-based and flexible problem-solving background, physics graduates find employment in a wide variety of fields, some of which are not directly associated with physics.
